TIMELESS LOVE

The Cursor was blinking and he was staring blankly at his computer screen. He was tired after a long day at work but couldn’t sleep. He received a call late in the evening requesting that he come home at the earliest. It had been 3 years since he visited home. In his new job he kept himself immersed in work.

He wondered the reason for this sudden call. He took the next flight home only to find her ailing and waiting eagerly for him.

She probed his face through her hands as she was unable to see. He hugged her, tears in his eyes. She said softly but proudly ‘My boy has a beard, he is a grown man!’

He remembered the last time he saw her she could see him with a sparkle in her eyes. And now life forces were extinguishing in her; she had become fragile, unable to see, walk or hear properly. She interrupted his thoughts and mumbled softly ‘Why don't you come more often my dearest. Should I request for your presence. All I want is that sometime you visit me.’

He repented that he had ignored his love and responsibility for her. All she ever did was shower him with unconditional love and support. She toiled so that he could have a good life.

He gently took her hand in his and spoke with a heavy voice ‘Come with me and I will take care of you Grand Ma..’

She lovingly said ‘Oh mad boy! Will I give you trouble at this age? This is my home for as long as I have known. If I die I would like to spend my last moments here. I pray to God to take me soon.’

He cried like a baby and she consoled him as she had always done, like the time when he had lost both his parents at a very young age!

(Dedicated to both my Grandmothers and late grandfathers! They are true blessing in my life. They have given me love beyond what is imaginable without expecting much in return.

All our grandparents want is that we visit them in their old age and talk to them from time to time. I hope as a token of our appreciation towards their eternal love and tenderness, we give them a fraction of that love which we have received from them in this lifetime!)

  1. Nice story. We often ignore and neglect our well wishers and people who genuinely mean well. In our arrogance of new found freedom we forget without these caring people we would not be where we are today. This story aptly reminds us of such a bond between grandma and grandkid.

  2. So true!
What I have experienced is that Grand-parents give unconditional love. To see a smile on our face and a twinkle in our eyes...that is enough to make their day!

  4. Fortunate are those who have the grand parents in their lives. I did not get to see my grand father as one died in world war II and another one died early... so I only remember my grand mother and I did not have the privilege of serving them as they died early... its a joy to serve our grandparents..
