like immutable drawings of time;
She changed from a girl to
daughter,
sister,
lover,
wife,
mother,
grandmother...
Now old,
did she ever live like she wanted to?
Near end,
she wound up being alone when
she needed everyone the most

A woman's dilemma, well expressed.
ReplyDeleteNice ending and description of being alone when needing others the most.
ReplyDeleteSo incredibly sad. Well said.
ReplyDeleteThanks @Uppal @Frank @Jackson
DeleteAll too often the true ending for those who've given much and suffered long ... and who sometimes outlive those who care. I'm filled with sadness.
ReplyDeleteYes true, and I say this because I have seen this happening. Fills me with extreme sadness too.
DeleteThis is a sad situation but a good poem. I like the places you chose for the line breaks.
ReplyDeleteThanks for appreciating Jenna!
DeleteNice poem. Old age is a reality for everyone. We must learn to deal with ageing. In increasingly fast paced society, that is also self centred, elderly are left behind.
ReplyDeleteYes, especially more so as we move towards nuclear family and consumerist culture.
DeleteI hope we all care for our old as we care for young ones.
...this happens too often.
ReplyDeleteYes sadly it does...
DeleteThis is so sad... I wonder why it happens, maybe in the end it's our friends that matter more than the family.
ReplyDeleteMay be one reason...
Deletebut how can we be averse to someone who raised us and took care of us. This I fail to understand, though I am not painting everyone with the same brush
Oh you have captured her plight so well.......the saddest question: did she ever live like she wanted to? And then alone at the end. So well expressed.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sherry!
DeleteThis is sad Kislaya, but it seems she had a reasonably full life... but said to be alone in tge end.
ReplyDeleteIt is very sad to be alone when one nears their end.
DeleteThanks for reading
A sad commentary. But often true. Well written.

Thanks Garon.
DeleteBecause it is a 'she' her life is all sacrifice and ending up alone. A sad reality. Penned so well.
ReplyDeleteIt indeed is a sad reality for many of them.
DeleteThanks for reading
This breaks my heart in all sorts of ways. Someone who meant so much for so many should never end up alone. Not ever.
ReplyDeleteNever ever!
DeleteThanks for dropping by Magaly
Unfortunately many older people find themselves alone. Well written piece.
ReplyDeleteTrue...it is a reality for many people who devote their lives for their children and grand-children, but when they need someone to look after them, old people are left alone to fend for themselves or mistreated.
DeleteThanks for reading.
