She entered the world
With wide open arms,
She cried at first
then smiled at last
Fear was unknown
Fierce she was -
A lady in the making
Rutilant she was
No-one could tie her
to orthodox views
or persistent patriarchy
that saturated this world
Calm she stayed
whatever come may
She battled all odds
each day, every day
Her will exceeded
her strength,
Always ready
for every challenge
Bravely she faced
all circumstance
and did not leave
anything to Chance
She had the will
to be strong and still
in the face of
greatest upheaval
Unhindered by any
situation, that is dark
Fighting and surviving
gave her a spark
Her desire -
to make a mark
in this ephemeral life,
If needed to tread
alone and survive
Her desire -
to be a Woman
of her own volition,
To be independent and equal
to every other human!

Kislaya, this is wonderful, and you have just described my wife... amazing!
ReplyDeleteI am glad that you find your wife to be a strong Woman of Substance.
DeleteYes! Yes! This is the kind of woman we need more of in this world. Really a fine poem!
ReplyDeleteSure Mary! We need such women and also men! Only then the world be equal for all...
DeleteThis is beautiful, Kislaya. I needed you when I had the hook "Where there's a will there's a woman" back in my song lyric writing days. Happy holidays!
ReplyDeleteOh Great! Nice to know that you wrote lyrics and songs! Thanks for appreciating! Happy Holidays to you too... :)
DeleteThis sounds just like it should be... every human's right to who she/he wants to be.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteIf every human is true to oneself, we will find more expression in this world and magical diversity :)
"magical diversity" ... I love that!
DeleteThanks again :)
DeletePlease check as to why am I unable to visit your blog?
A beautiful poem.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sir!
DeleteSo poignant and deep, every word rings true to remind us who we really are. Very beautifully written, Kislaya.
ReplyDeleteYes Arti...We often wonder as a human being but gender perspective becomes so ingrained in our society!
DeleteWhat a wonderful read! I enjoyed every verse and then also your quote about "well-behaved" women at the end. Your poem has me walking taller through my day!
ReplyDeleteSusan I am glad to hear that! :)
DeleteWell penned! :-)
ReplyDeleteShe sounds as strong as a woman needs to be, in this world of men. This is an inspiring poem.
ReplyDeleteSure it is! Thanks Sherry :)
DeleteYou have described Woman in her true image. Love the affirmations of strength and iron will. Well crafted!
ReplyDeleteThanks Vivian! We as Woman display strength and iron will in all walks of our lives!
DeleteTruly the kind of woman every woman should strive to be. This is wonderful and inspiring Kislaya!!
ReplyDeleteYes Carrie, we all should strive to be strong and spirited! Thanks :)
Delete"rutilant" ... What a great word!
ReplyDelete"She had the will
to be strong and still
in the face of
greatest upheaval" ... A useful skill, I would think.
Thanks..Glad you appreciated the use of word - Rutilant!
DeleteBy the way, I am unable to visit your blog page as it says "invite only"
An excellent elaboration on that great quote.
ReplyDeleteThanks Rosemary :)
DeleteExcellent and inspiring!
ReplyDeleteThanks Buddah!
DeleteI love this song, the echo of a battle-cry, I love the power evoked by the words, the promise of never staying down... I nearly squealed when I read the 8th stanza. I just adore the balance of her being--she understands the world isn't easy or clear, but she is willing to make the best of it... and her best is fantastic.
ReplyDeleteAlso, thank you for the new word. Rutilant makes me think of my head!
Well said - Her best is fantastic.
DeleteI am so happy to add a new word to your vocabulary! Yes you are rutilant..
Thanks for liking my name in your blog comment :) :)
Wonderful Poem. The best I read so far for the prompt from blogadda. Keep it going.
ReplyDeleteOh! I am flattered M. Jothi!
DeleteThanks and Welcome to my blog :)

A woman has to keep on fighting just to survive in a man's world. It has been a norm for as long as sex separates us!
Hank
Yes it is true to some extent! But visionary men have taken steps for upliftment of women! Credit goes to them! Can’t ignore their contribution.
DeleteI hope things change soon and for the better.
